I Pleaded With Bode George Not To Go Into Exile After My Election Victory’ – Tinubu

Published

on

President Bola Tinubu has revealed that he personally pleaded with Bode George, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), not to carry out his widely publicised threat to go into exile if he (Tinubu) emerged victorious in the 2023 presidential election.

Naija News reports that Tinubu made the remark on Friday while celebrating the elder statesman’s 80th birthday and the public presentation of his memoir.

The President, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, said the humorous recollection underscored the enduring bond of nationhood that transcends partisan politics.

I pleaded with him that he would have a change of heart, because we would all remain in Nigeria and work together to achieve the peaceful and prosperous Nigeria that was our collective dream,” Tinubu said.

Tinubu emphasised that political disagreements should never overshadow the unity that holds the country together.

He further stated, “The event of today has again demonstrated that, as politicians, we can shout and disagree. Still, the values that bind us together as members of the same household living in different rooms are more enduring and stronger than what divides us.”

He praised George for inviting him to the ceremony despite their long-standing political rivalry.

He said, “Chief George’s invitation reflects the Nigerian and Lagos spirit, our shared humanity, history, kindred spirit and good neighbourliness.”

The President described the celebrant as a “distinguished Nigerian” and “accomplished public servant” whose journey to 80 exemplifies resilience and divine favour.

He further noted that although they had often been on different sides of political debates since 1999, George had consistently offered constructive advice on national issues.

Tinubu said, “Since assuming office, Chief George has offered valuable counsel through his public interventions on national issues.”

Tinubu commended George’s newly launched memoir, saying it captures key phases of his life, from his childhood in Lagos to his naval career, his time as military governor of the old Ondo State, his leadership at the Nigerian Ports Authority, and his role in party politics.

He said the book would provide “invaluable lessons on leadership, public service, party politics, and military doctrine.”

The President pledged full support for the publication and urged attendees to purchase copies for personal reading and public libraries.

He prayed for George’s continued good health and many more years in service to the nation.

In the build-up to the 2023 elections, Bode George famously vowed to relocate abroad if Tinubu became President.

“If they allow the result to be streamed electronically, there is no way he would win.

“But if the people keep saying he is the man they want, I have no qualms. I will go and live anywhere I want to live,” he said at the time.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the G20 Leaders’ Summit.

At the summit, Shettima is expected to advance Nigeria’s agenda on economic cooperation, security partnerships, climate financing, and global development.

This was stated in a release by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Stanley Nkwocha, on Friday.

The statement confirmed that Shettima will engage with global leaders and development partners throughout the summit.

The Vice President’s attendance follows President Tinubu’s last-minute cancellation of his scheduled trip to South Africa on Wednesday, November 19.

“Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa, for the G20 Leaders’ Summit.

“The Vice President, who arrived on Friday evening, is scheduled to engage foreign leaders and development partners on issues relating to the economy, security, and climate change, among others,” the statement read.

The President remained in Abuja to receive high-level security briefings in the wake of the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the deadly attack on worshippers at a Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.

The meeting, which will take place from November 22 to 23 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, brings together leaders of the world’s 20 largest economies, alongside representatives of the European Union, the African Union, and major international financial institutions.

Shettima, who touched down at Waterkloof Air Force Base, was received by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Chargé d’Affaires, Alexander Ajayi; Consul General, Umar Bashir; Defence Adviser, Commodore Ibrahim Ari Gwaska; South Africa’s Chief Director for West Africa, Nyameko Goso; and Small Business Development Minister, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, among other officials.

Nnamdi Kanu Secretly Transferred To Notorious Prison – Sowore

Published

Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist has claimed that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra Nnamdi Kanu has been transferred to a correctional center in Sokoto State.

Daily Voice reports that Kanu, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS since 2021, was on Thursday sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of terrorism-related charges.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Sowore alleged that the separatist was secretly moved from the DSS custody to Sokoto prison.

He wrote, “The Tinubu Regime Has Secretly Transferred Nnamdi Kanu to Sokoto Prison

“Yes, they have already planned it. Their intention since yesterday was to move Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to a notorious prison based in the northern parts, where his safety cannot be guaranteed. I can confirm now that he’s already in Sokoto prison.

“They openly said he would “become a king” if taken to Kuje correctional center in Abuja, because according to them, “Igbo people” and his supporters would turn Kuje into a place of pilgrimage.

“That is why they are desperate to keep him far away, isolated, and vulnerable.

“It is also why they activated their cronies to start selling the illusion of “renewed hope” for MNK, a psychological tactic to keep the public calm while they execute their darkest agenda. Their plan is simple it is to keep your hopes alive just long enough for him to die in custody.

“They have no intention of releasing him, not even for political calculations or electoral convenience.

“I have said it before without fear, MNK’s greatest enemies are the politicians from his own region. They fear his influence, they fear his connection to the people, and they want him silenced permanently. This is why they fought tooth and nail to frustrate our #FreeNnamdiKanuNOW protest”.

FG Reveals Why Tinubu Is Yet To Meet With Donald Trump

Published

on

The Federal Government has said President Bola Tinubu will visit the United States and meet with President Donald Trump “once the situation is right for him,” following heightened diplomatic tension between both countries.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated this on Friday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Idris said, “We believe that he will go once the situation is right for him to go. But he has been to America. I was with him at the UN when he took office.”

Relations between Abuja and Washington deteriorated sharply after Trump redesignated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC), citing what he called “mass slaughter of Christians”.

The CPC designation, reinstated on October 31, triggered a wave of reactions from Nigerian officials and religious groups.

Days after the redesignation, Trump issued a fiery warning, accusing the Nigerian Government of failing to contain attacks on Christian communities.

In a controversial post on his Truth Social platform, the US President threatened to halt aid and possibly launch military operations in Nigeria.

“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, ‘guns-a-blazing,’ to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities,” Trump wrote.

He added, “I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet.”
