Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo has increased the new minimum wage for civil servants in the state from N76,000 to N104,000.

Governor Uzodimma also raised doctors’ minimum wage from N215,000 to N503,000, while that of tertiary institution teachers increased from N119,000 to N222,000

Speaking on this, Uzodimma said no government can succeed without a cordial relationship with the labour union

The governor also announced an increase in the new minimum wage for doctors from N215,000 to N503,000. He further said the minimum wage of teachers in tertiary institutions was raised from N119,000 to N222,000.

Uzodimma explained that the people of Imo have faced a series of challenges since his administration took over the office, citing the COVID-19 pandemic, insecurity, the dispute over the minimum wage, the economic hardship as a result of the reform and the general subsidy removal.

He explained that his administration has it at the back of its mind that no government would perform better if there were no friendly and cordial relationship with the organised labour.

His statement reads in part: “When workers are paid well, productivity rises, families are happier, and the local economy grows.”

The governor explained that the new minimum wage is a way of investing in the people of the state, stressing that his administration believes in “stimulating political and economic activities, carrying bureaucrats along, and making sure that workers’ welfare was highly respected.”

Governor Uzodimma also disclosed that Imo’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) has experienced a significant increase from N400 million to over N3 billion per month.

According to Uzidimma, Imo was receiving allocations between N5 billion and N7 billion in 2020, but that has been increased to N14 billion.

This came days after the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) threatened the federal government that it would go on strike in the next seven days, except the government refunded the workers’ funds allegedly diverted from the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).

The labour union also asked the government to immediately constitute the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) governing board, adding that failure to meet their demands would lead to nationwide action.

The union announced the resolution in a communique at the end of its Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting, which was held at its headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, August 13.

Widespread hardship has heightened demands for an increase in the national minimum wage in the country.

Dangote To Retire As Dangote Sugar Chair

In a recent statement, Saidaboj called on the Dangote Group to go beyond offering condolences and instead take full responsibility by sponsoring the late Ruth’s children until they secure stable employment in the future. According to him, this would be the company’s most genuine way of apologizing and showing accountability.

“The true way to say sorry is not just in words, but in action. Dangote Group should ensure Ruth’s children are trained, educated, and supported until they get good jobs. That is the real obligation,” Saidaboj emphasized.

Her comments have since sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some Nigerians agreed that corporate organizations should prioritize corporate social responsibility in cases where negligence or controversy may be implied, others argued that placing the entire burden on Dangote Group may be excessive.

“Kingship Will Become A Political Office, Rulers Will Be Replaced In Their Lifetime” – Primate Ayodele

Published

on

The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has revealed that he foresees that kingship will become more of a political office rather than a traditional office in Nigeria.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele stated that traditional rulers will be replaced in their lifetime, unlike the normal procedure, which requires that a king dies before the emergence of another.

He made it known that traditional stools will be disrespected and reduced to nothing because of politics, stating that many of the rulers will be taken for granted, while the government will start looking down on them.

“They will be relegated because of politics, they will be forced to be into politics, or they will lose relevance. There will be a time when a traditional ruler will not have to die before another one emerges, the stools will be politicized because they won’t bother to consult oracles, it will become a political office.”

“Some prominent kings, including Emirs, Obis, Obas, Ezes, will be reduced to nothing because their local government will start controlling them. Some of them will be taken for granted, and the government will start looking down on them.”

The prophet explained that traditional rulers will be imprisoned and arrested in Nigeria, stating that respect for them will drastically decrease. He made it known that they will be relegated because of politics.

“There will be so much politics that will come into the stool regardless of the class, and I see them losing relevance. In Nigeria, some kings will be arrested and imprisoned; I am seeing bad days ahead for traditional rulers.”

“The honour and respect given to rulers will drastically reduce. I see a kind of reform by the government to seriously checkmate the traditional rulers.”
