Senior Lawyer Seeks Probe Of Wike–Military Land Dispute In Abuja
Dr Olisa Agbakoba, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), says the clash between Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Lt. A.M. Yerima of the Nigerian Navy raises urgent questions about civilian authority and the legality of military claims to land in Abuja.
In a statement on Thursday, Agbakoba said while Wike “could have approached Lt. Yerima differently”, the core issue is whether the military has a valid title to the disputed plot.
He said the confrontation should not distract from the need to determine if Yerima lawfully occupies the land or is “simply wielding military power to assert control”.
Agbakoba questioned whether military directives can override civilian law in a democratic system.
His words: “So I ask: aside from Wike’s alleged indiscretion, what about the military’s claim to the land in question?
“Does Lt. Yerima actually have legal title to it, or has he simply wielded military power to assert his control? While it’s true that Lt. Yerima can invoke obedience to superior orders to deny access to Wike, it begs the larger question: do military rules operate separately from our civilian laws?”
He said clarity is needed on whether “the General holds a legitimate title to this land or if he is merely relying on military power”.
“Can a civilian, in this case the minister, resist or evade compliance with those military directives?” Agbakoba asked.
He said the matter “certainly warrants a thorough investigation”

Osun 2026: APC Takes Lead in Fresh Results Update (SEE RESULTS)
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has widened its lead over the Accord Party in a fresh results update released by the APC Social Media and Situation Room Team during the ongoing Osun State governorship election.
The update, released at 3:40 p.m., showed below.

According to the update, the figures were compiled from 508 polling units so far.
The latest figures put the APC ahead of Accord by 1,320 votes, representing a notable increase from the earlier margin reported by the party’s situation room.
The figures indicate a closely fought contest between the APC and Accord, with the two leading parties separated by just over 1,000 votes based on the results presented.
The APC Situation Room described the figures as “real-time updates”, suggesting that additional results are still expected from other polling units across the state.
However, the figures have not been independently verified and should not be regarded as the official result of the election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) remains responsible for the verification, collation and declaration of the final governorship election results.
With results from only 508 polling units reflected in the latest update, the overall outcome remains uncertain, particularly as more results are expected from across Osun’s local government areas.
The narrowing or widening of the margin in subsequent updates could significantly shape expectations about the eventual winner.
Note: The figures reported above are based solely on the APC Social Media and Situation Room Team’s update shown in the supplied image and remain subject to official verification by INEC.

BREAKING: Popular Osun Candidate Withdraws From Race, 3 Days to Election
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, Adedamola Adebayo, popularly known as FRYO, has withdrawn from the race and endorsed the incumbent governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.
Adebayo announced his decision on Wednesday at a press conference in Osogbo, where he also directed PDP members, supporters and political structures associated with his leadership across the state to support Adeleke in Saturday’s election.
Naija News reports his withdrawal comes three days before the poll and is expected to affect the political calculations ahead of the election.
Explaining his decision, Adebayo said it followed extensive consultations and a careful assessment of the political situation in the state.
“This decision was not taken in haste. I have spent considerable time consulting with people, listening to different perspectives and carefully examining the political situation in our state,” he said.
He said his decision was based on what he described as the larger interest of Osun State rather than personal political ambition.
“Politics is not only about contesting elections. Politics is also about understanding the realities of the moment, making difficult decisions when necessary, and putting the larger interest of our people above personal ambition,” Adebayo said.
Declaring his support for the incumbent governor, he said, “After extensive consultations and careful consideration, I have decided to endorse His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, in the August 15 gubernatorial election in Osun State.”
Adebayo said he was solely responsible for the decision and had informed PDP leaders, members and stakeholders across the state.
“I want to make it very clear that this decision is mine, and I take full responsibility for it,” he said.
He subsequently called on PDP members, supporters and party structures loyal to his leadership to support Adeleke’s re-election bid.
“I encourage all PDP members, supporters and party structures across the state who believe in my leadership and judgment to support the emergence of His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, at the August 15 gubernatorial election,” he said.
Adebayo acknowledged that some of his supporters might disagree with his decision, but urged them to respect the democratic process.
“I understand that some people may ask questions. I understand that some of our supporters may have different opinions. I respect that. Democracy gives every one of us the right to hold a different opinion, and I will never condemn anybody simply because they disagree with me,” he said.
