BREAKING: Makinde Announces Date to Unveil New Party, Presidential Declaration
The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has reportedly concluded plans to declare his 2027 presidential ambition.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain is also set to unveil a political alliance between the party and the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM).
Naija News understands that both events are set to be unveiled during a major political rally on Thursday, May 14, at the Mapo Hall in Ibadan.
Sources familiar with the developments told Vanguard on Tuesday that the event, tagged “Unity Mega Rally Ibadan 2026”, is expected to serve as the official launch of Governor Makinde’s anticipated 2027 presidential bid, as well as candidates aligned with the emerging coalition being championed by the Oyo State governor and his loyalists.
Sources close to the discussions revealed that consultations among stakeholders have accelerated in recent weeks following unresolved internal disputes within the PDP at the national level, prompting several loyalists and political actors to begin exploring alternative political arrangements.
Political observers maintained that the moves are part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening grassroots structures across Oyo State and beyond while consolidating Governor Makinde’s growing influence within the national political space.
The May 14 rally is expected to attract political stakeholders, youth groups, community leaders, traditional supporters and allies from across the country, particularly individuals believed to align with Governor Makinde’s leadership style and political vision.

BREAKING: Kwankwaso Breaks Silence on Serving as Peter Obi’s Running Mate
Former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has confirmed he would accept the role of vice-presidential candidate to Peter Obi if selected by the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general election
Speaking during the interview, the former presidential candidate said he would gladly work with Obi if the party settles for a southern candidate and asks him to deputise, Vanguard reported
“If the party decides that I should be the running mate of any candidate from the south under the circumstances, I’d be happy to work together with him,” he said.
Kwankwaso also suggested that the alliance between himself and Obi could offer Nigeria a stronger leadership alternative ahead of the elections. “Personally, I cannot remember any better combination, no matter how much time is given to find those who can beat us in terms of doing the right thing for this country,” he added.
The former Kano governor further revealed that he and Obi had already reached an understanding on addressing the country’s worsening security situation, The Cable reported. “Both of us, my humble self and Peter Obi, have agreed to tackle the issue of insecurity head-on to ensure there is peace and stability in this country,” he said.
The remarks are expected to intensify discussions around possible opposition coalitions ahead of 2027, especially amid growing speculation over the shape of alliances that may emerge to challenge the ruling party.
Political observers believe any formal partnership involving Kwankwaso and Obi could significantly reshape calculations ahead of the next presidential contest.
