BREAKING: Bomb Explosion Rocks Niger State as Deaths Recorded
A captain and two soldiers have reportedly been killed after an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded at Maciyan-Kyada village in Babanna ward of Borgu Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger state.
A security source disclosed that two other soldiers sustained serious injuries in the explosion
The source stated that the troops left Babanna town at about 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, on a routine patrol when one of their patrol vehicles ran over an IED suspected to have been planted on the road by terrorists.
He said, according to Daily Trust: “The IED explosion involved soldiers. They were on a routine patrol when their patrol van stepped on the IED buried on the road by the terrorists. Three soldiers lost their lives, including a captain and two others sustained injuries.”
A resident of the area, who also confirmed the incident, identified one of the deceased soldiers as Yusuf Kabir. The resident added that the incident had heightened tension in the community.
As of the time of this report, neither the Niger state government nor military authorities had issued an official statement on the incident.

Sad End: Death Strikes, Nigerian Sitting Senator Bereaved

Two children of the immediate past Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Baba Tela, have died in a fatal road accident.
Naija News learnt that the siblings, Mustapha and Ummi, died on Saturday after the vehicle conveying them was involved in a crash along the Bauchi–Azare highway while they were returning to Bauchi from Azare, the headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area.
They were said to have died at the scene of the accident due to the severity of the impact, and their bodies were later taken to a hospital in Bauchi, where medical personnel confirmed them dead.
Reacting to the tragedy, the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, expressed profound grief and extended his condolences to Senator Baba Tela and his family.
Mohammed described the incident as heartbreaking and a painful loss not only to the Tela family but also to the people of Bauchi State, noting that no words could adequately console the bereaved family.
The governor prayed for Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, grant them eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, and bless their family with the strength and patience to endure the painful loss.
According to the statement, the funeral prayer for Mustapha and Ummi is scheduled to be held at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

Apply Now: FRSC Opens Portal for 2026 Recruitment Exercise, Gives Application Deadline
The Federal Road Safety Corps has commenced its 2026 recruitment exercise, with its online application portal now open to qualified Nigerians seeking employment across different cadres of the agency.
The recruitment drive covers several categories, including the officer cadre, marshal inspectorate and road marshal assistant positions.
Prospective applicants have been advised to study the eligibility requirements for their preferred category before submitting their applications.
The corps said vacancies are available for Superintendent Route Commander, Route Commander or Deputy Route Commander, Assistant Route Commander, Marshal Inspector II and III, as well as Road Marshal Assistant I, II and III.
Applicants for officer positions are expected to possess relevant university degrees or Higher National Diplomas from recognised institutions. Those applying for marshal inspectorate and road marshal assistant roles must also meet the educational and professional requirements attached to each position.
FRSC added that artisans, drivers and riders with relevant qualifications and work experience are eligible to apply under the road marshal assistant category.
According to the agency, applicants must be Nigerians by birth, medically fit and computer literate. A valid National Driver’s Licence will serve as an added advantage during the recruitment process.
Candidates are also required to present a medical fitness certificate issued by a government-approved hospital. Applicants for specialised positions must possess relevant professional licences where applicable.
The corps stated that male applicants must have a minimum height of 1.65 metres, while female candidates must be at least 1.58 metres tall. It also said applicants must have good character, be free from financial embarrassment and must not have any criminal record.
Interested Nigerians have been directed to complete their applications through the official FRSC recruitment portal. The agency said the application window will remain open for four weeks from Friday, July 3, 2026.
FRSC also reminded applicants that the entire recruitment process is free of charge and warned members of the public against paying money to individuals claiming to offer employment assistance. For enquiries, prospective candidates were advised to use the agency’s official support channels, including its designated helpline, 122.

The Christian community in Kumasi is mourning the death of Archbishop Dr Richard Samuel Addae, the founder of Shiloh United Church and the Shiloh Archbishop Addae Theological Institute.
News of the respected clergyman’s death emerged on Friday, June 26, after it was shared by several social media users, including Kumasi-based content creator Kwabena Nsafoa, YEN.co.gh reports.
At the time of publication, the cause of Archbishop Addae’s death had not been disclosed, and his family was yet to issue an official statement.
How was Archbishop Addae’s death announced?
Nsafoa, who said he had known the late archbishop for more than three decades as a neighbour, paid an emotional tribute to him on Facebook.
Referring to him as Sofo Panyin, a title of respect for a senior pastor in the Twi language, Nsafoa described Archbishop Addae as a man who had touched many lives through his ministry.
Another Facebook user, El Son Clifford, had also shared news of the cleric’s death hours earlier, with the announcement quickly spreading across social media.

Who was Archbishop Richard Samuel Addae?
Archbishop Addae was widely respected for his contribution to Christian ministry and education in Kumasi.
He founded the Shiloh Bible College at Tanoso, which later grew into the Shiloh Archbishop Addae Theological Institute, where aspiring ministers received biblical training.
Together with his late wife, Beatrice Addae, he also established Shiloh International School at Ampabame, a private institution that educated generations of primary and junior high school pupils.
Mrs Addae, who served as the school’s proprietress, died several years before her husband.
