The statement read: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced 26 new appointments to 10 federal government agencies and commissions, with the former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, emerging as chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), and Major General Junaid Bindawa as chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.

“Fayose will head the board of REA, with Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta appointed as members and non-executive directors. The incumbent DG of the agency, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three executive directors previously appointed make up the remaining board members.”

It further stated: “President Tinubu made eight other appointments to the Wages Commission, along with Major General Bindawa. Former member of the House of Representatives from Lagos, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, is the new secretary of the commission. Dr Ogbole Ene Lilian, Oladele Olatubosun, and Yakubu Umar Barde, representing Benue, Oyo and Kaduna respectively, were appointed as commissioners.

“Dr Mai Adamu Yau (Borno), Ginika Florence Tor (Enugu), Engineer Lawrence Okoh (Edo), and Bello Morenike Iyabode (Kogi) were appointed as members of the commission.

“Tosin Johnson Adeyanju, who was previously appointed Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF), has now been moved to the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission as secretary.

“President Tinubu also appointed Dr Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission, Dr Akinola Odeyemi as Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET), and Dr Anthony Inalegwu Godwin as chairman/CEO of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission. Engineer Julius Oloro, a former council chairman, is the new CEO of the Kwara-based National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM), replacing Dr A.R. Kamal, who died last January.”

“The board members include Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola.

“Shuni Muhammad Dahiru is the new executive secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, replacing Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu, who was reassigned to the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) in April.

“To replace Mathias Byuan, the former executive director (finance) of the Federal Housing Authority, who resigned to contest the governorship election in Benue State,

“President Tinubu named Gisaor Vincent Iorja. Iorja is an economist, legal scholar, and academic currently serving as the secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC),” the statement said.

It claimed that the report contained false information and was intended to influence the consideration of the bail application.

In the first charge, Abubakar was accused of knowingly providing information capable of misleading a public officer.

According to prosecutors, the report was prepared with the intention of influencing official actions relating to the former governor’s case.

The second count alleged that the medical consultant abused his position by issuing the report despite allegedly knowing that the information contained in it did not reflect the true medical status of the individual concerned.

The anti-corruption agency stressed that the action was intended to confer an advantage in the ongoing legal proceedings.

The ICPC further accused Abubakar of working together with one Aliyu Bala in producing information that was later relied upon in a further affidavit filed in support of El-Rufai’s bail application.

In the fourth charge, the commission alleged that the doctor presented the medical report in a manner suggesting it had the backing and approval of the National Hospital, Abuja, despite claims that the institution neither authorised nor endorsed the document.

As part of its case, the ICPC listed the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital, Abuja, Dr. Raji Mahmud, as one of its key witnesses.

The commission said Mahmud is expected to testify that the report was issued without the medical procedures required by the hospital.

He is also expected to inform the court that the document was not approved by the hospital’s management before it was allegedly handed over for use in the bail application.

“My client gave his testimony, responded to questions accordingly, and has returned to his duty post.”

On July 2, Tinubu directed ICPC to conduct a “thorough investigation” into the controversial PFIPC scandal.

Bayo Onanuga, the presidential spokesperson, said Tinubu asked the ICPC to conclude the investigation and submit a comprehensive report to him within 30 days.
