Party sources said the APC’s Information and Communication Technology team has been handling the uploading process while ensuring that all required documents meet INEC’s specifications.

However, the party is facing challenges with the submission of candidates for State Houses of Assembly.

The source revealed that technical issues affecting the INEC nomination portal have slowed down the process for the assembly candidates.

Despite the setback, the APC expressed optimism that the problem would be resolved quickly.

“Our ICT team has already scanned and prepared the documents for immediate upload once the issues are resolved,” the official said.

The party maintained that preparations were progressing smoothly in most states despite concerns raised by some aspirants and stakeholders following the outcome of various primaries.

Reacting to reports of dissatisfaction among some party members, APC Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, said efforts were ongoing to reconcile aggrieved stakeholders and strengthen unity within the party.

According to him, the APC reconciliation committee has already commenced engagement with affected members.

“As for the disaffection that the emergence of some of these candidates may have caused, the reconciliation committee is working,” Ibrahim said.

“We are hoping that, at the end of the day, all grievances will be resolved. All the aggrieved parties will come together and forge ahead.”

He stressed that the party remained focused on building a united front ahead of the elections.

Ibrahim also urged candidates to remain committed to the APC’s policies and programmes while taking the message of President Bola Tinubu Renewed Hope agenda to voters across the country.

He said party members must work collectively to strengthen the APC’s chances at the polls.

INEC had opened its portal for governorship and State House of Assembly nominations on July 18.

The commission fixed August 8 as the deadline for the submission of candidates’ particulars.

Under the timetable released by the electoral body, personal details of candidates will be published on August 29 to enable public scrutiny.

The deadline for withdrawal and substitution of candidates has been fixed for September 19.

In a related development, the APC recently announced the successful completion of the upload of all its presidential and National Assembly candidates to the INEC Candidate Nomination Portal.

The party described it as a major milestone in its preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The exercise saw the submission of 471 candidates, including the presidential ticket, Senate candidates and House of Representatives aspirants.

APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, hailed the development and commended party officials involved in the process.

“I congratulate our candidates, leaders, and members of APC on the successful 100% upload of our Presidential, Vice Presidential, Senate, and House of Representatives candidates on the INEC Candidate Nomination Portal (ICNP),” he said.

“With this milestone achieved, our focus now shifts to mobilisation and preparations for a successful campaign and decisive victory at the polls.”

The successful upload also confirmed President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as the APC presidential ticket for the 2027 election.

The development came shortly after INEC extended the deadline for the submission of presidential and National Assembly candidates following appeals from some political parties that were unable to meet the initial deadline.

The APC had criticised opposition parties over the extension, insisting that it had completed its submissions before the original closing date.

Recall that INEC later announced an extension of the deadline after receiving requests from political parties through the Inter-Party Advisory Council.

The electoral commission said the decision was taken to allow parties complete their uploads while ensuring broad participation in the electoral process.

Deputy Speaker Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided over the sitting in place of Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin, read the governor’s letter to members of the House. Lawmakers approved the request without opposition, expressing confidence that the affairs of the state would continue smoothly under the leadership of the deputy governor.

Following the approval, Lawal will serve as Acting Governor throughout the period of Makinde’s leave, taking charge of the day-to-day administration of the state to ensure that government activities continue without interruption until the governor returns.

Speaking after the approval, Fadeyi wished Governor Makinde a restful annual leave and reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to sustaining a healthy working relationship with the executive arm of government. He also expressed confidence in the deputy governor’s ability to provide effective leadership while acting as governor, noting that Oyo State’s stable governance structure would ensure that policies and government programmes continue without disruption.

Other lawmakers also commended Governor Makinde for complying with constitutional requirements by formally notifying the House before proceeding on leave. They described the move as another demonstration of his respect for democratic principles, constitutional governance and the rule of law.

At the end of the plenary, the House directed that its approval of the governor’s leave request be formally communicated to the executive arm for the necessary action.

Recall that a Federal High Court on Wednesday ruled in favour of the Oyo State Government in a case involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The court set aside the EFCC’s request seeking extensive financial records from the state government and held that the anti-graft agency could not carry out a blanket investigation without specific allegations.

The case stems from a June 2, 2025 letter in which the EFCC requested copies of all contracts involving the state government as well as details of payments made to contractors from 2021 onward. The Oyo State Government challenged the request, arguing through the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Abiodun Aikomo, that the demand was oppressive, unreasonable and too broad because of the large volume of contracts and transactions involved.

Although the EFCC argued that Section 38 of the EFCC Act, 2004 empowered it to demand information from any person, authority, corporation or company for investigative purposes, Justice Maha ruled that such requests must be reasonable and linked to specific allegations rather than amounting to a blanket demand for financial records.

The ruling came months after Governor Makinde declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). Announcing his ambition at a joint rally of his PDP faction and the APM in Ibadan in May, Makinde said, “The time to reset Nigeria is now. Therefore, today, I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, announce my candidacy for the position of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”Nigeria news updates

He also announced a political alliance between his PDP faction in Oyo State and the APM, saying the partnership would enable the opposition to field candidates for all elective positions in the 2027 general election.

He also thanked party members for what he described as a mutually beneficial relationship throughout his membership and wished the party well.

Copies of the resignation letter were forwarded to the ADC National Chairman and members of the party’s National Working Committee, the Kaduna State Executive Committee, and the Sabon Gari LGA executives.

As of the time of filing this report, Prof. Bello has not publicly disclosed the reasons behind his decision to leave the ADC, nor has he announced his next political destination.
