NDC Raises Alarm Over Fresh Restrictions In Abuja, Fingers APC

Published

on

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of mounting pressure on hotels in Abuja to deny opposition parties access to their facilities for political meetings and other activities.

The party alleged that the ruling APC was behind what it described as deliberate attempts to restrict the activities of opposition groups and shrink the democratic space in the Federal Capital Territory.

NDC raised the allegation in a press statement issued on Thursday, November, by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director.

The party said it had not only been subjected to violent attacks allegedly carried out by agents of the ruling APC but had also become a target of discrimination by hotels and other businesses in Abuja’s hospitality industry.

According to the NDC, Rockview Hotel in Abuja cancelled agreements to provide facilities for its meetings on two separate occasions, despite initially agreeing to host the party.

It disclosed that the first incident occurred in June 2026 when the hotel allegedly withdrew its approval at the last minute, preventing the party from holding its second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

The party said the hotel recently repeated the action when it again refused to allow it to use its facilities for another meeting.

“Only recently, they refused our utilization of their facilities for a meeting, saying it was order from above,” the statement read.

The NDC also accused BON Hotel in Wuse, Abuja, of denying it access to its facilities despite the party having fulfilled the conditions required to use the venue.

The party further alleged that attempts to unveil its National Campaign Council (NCC) were initially frustrated by another hospitality business, which reportedly withdrew its willingness to host the event after receiving payment.

“At the last minute, our host called the party to refund the payment made, saying they were no longer interested in making their facilities available, perhaps based on threats and orders from above,” the statement added.

However, the NDC said it refused to accept the decision and insisted on using the facility after making the necessary payment.

The opposition party described the alleged actions as undemocratic, accusing the APC of attempting to prevent political opponents from freely carrying out their activities ahead of the 2027 general election.

“This is not democracy. The APC should allow all parties to campaign without let or hindrance, and give Nigerians the opportunity to make their choice on who governs them,” the party stated.

The NDC also called on Nigerians and supporters of democracy to condemn the alleged discriminatory actions of Rockview Hotel and BON Hotel.

“In addition, we implore all well-meaning Nigerians and lovers of democracy to call out Rockview and BON Hotel for their anti-people and anti-democratic actions,” it said.

The party maintained that Nigerians deserved a political environment where all parties could freely organise meetings, campaign and present their programmes without intimidation.

The development follows a controversial Federal High Court judgment in Abuja that nullified the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by former Senate President David Mark.

Justice Peter Lifu, who delivered the judgment on Thursday, upheld a suit filed by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former National Deputy Chairman (North-East) of the ADC, challenging the emergence of the Mark-led leadership.

The court declared the actions taken by the Mark-led leadership invalid, effectively nullifying decisions of its caretaker committee, including the process that produced former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election.

Gombe had argued that he was entitled to take over the party’s leadership following the resignation of its former National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu.

He also maintained that the emergence of Mark and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively, violated the party’s constitution and provisions of the Electoral Act.

However, the party has vowed to challenge the ruling at the appellate court. Its National Welfare Secretary, Nkemakolam Ukandu, who was joined in the case as an interested party, confirmed that the leadership would appeal the judgment.

The court ruling came barely 24 hours after Atiku held a campaign rally in Sokoto State, where he accused members of the APC of allegedly attempting to manipulate the 2027 election by buying voters’ cards in northern communities.

Addressing supporters during the flag-off of his presidential campaign on Wednesday, Atiku urged Nigerians to participate actively in the election and protect their votes.

He warned that low voter turnout could create opportunities for those allegedly buying voters’ cards to manipulate the electoral process and misrepresent the level of opposition support in northern Nigeria.

“Let us come out and vote as if it were Judgment Day. Come out in large numbers, protect your votes and escort them until they are secured,” the former Vice President said.

He further alleged that APC members were moving from one village to another to purchase voters’ cards.

“If you fail to turn out in large numbers, people will go from village to village buying voters’ cards to create the impression that we do not have as many supporters as those in the South. Go out and cast your vote, and protect it,” Atiku added.

Judgement On ADC Will Lead To Your Downfall – US Firm Warns Tinubu

Published

on

A United States-based lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has warned President Bola Tinubu that the Federal High Court judgment nullifying the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) could become a defining moment in his political downfall.

The firm accused the Nigerian government of celebrating a court ruling that could affect the presidential ambition of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, whom it described as Tinubu’s main opponent ahead of the 2027 general election.

Von Batten-Montague-York issued the warning while reacting to a social media post by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who had commented on the judgment delivered by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

In a post on X, the firm accused officials of the Tinubu administration of openly celebrating a ruling that it claimed could eliminate the President’s leading political rival from the forthcoming presidential election.

“Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s (@officialABAT) agents and officials are truly the gift that keeps on giving,” the firm wrote.

“The Nigerian Presidency is openly celebrating a court ruling that reportedly indicates they arranged to eliminate current Nigerian President Tinubu’s main rival in the upcoming Nigerian presidential election.”

The firm criticised Keyamo’s reaction, arguing that the aviation minister’s comments could be interpreted as evidence of the government’s involvement in efforts to undermine the opposition.

It disclosed that it would present Keyamo’s post to officials of the administration of United States President Donald Trump and members of the US Congress.

“We are going to be presenting the @X post of @fkeyamo, President Tinubu’s Minister of Aviation, whose government portfolio has nothing to do with elections or electoral integrity, openly celebrating what a senior congressional staffer described as an ‘open display of election interference by the Nigerian government,’ to members of the @realDonaldTrump administration and Congress,” the statement added.

Von Batten-Montague-York further warned Tinubu that the development could have serious political consequences, suggesting that the President’s reaction to the judgment might eventually work against him.

“We have a prediction for current Nigerian President Tinubu: In a few months, you are going to look at this court ruling and @fkeyamo’s post as the defining moment when the rope the United States has been giving you to figuratively hang yourself finally became the instrument of your own political downfall,” the firm stated.

The warning followed Thursday’s judgment by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which nullified the leadership of the ADC led by former Senate President David Mark and declared its actions on behalf of the party invalid.

Justice Peter Lifu delivered the judgment while ruling on a suit filed by Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former National Deputy Chairman of the party from the North-East, who challenged the process through which the Mark-led leadership emerged.

Gombe had argued that he was entitled to take over the party’s leadership following the resignation of its former National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu.

He asked the court to nullify decisions taken by the Mark-led leadership and restrain Mark and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola from parading themselves as the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively.

The plaintiff maintained that their emergence violated the ADC constitution and provisions of the Electoral Act.

The court upheld Gombe’s claims and granted the reliefs he sought, effectively invalidating decisions taken by the Mark-led Caretaker Committee, including the primary election that produced Atiku as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

Atiku had earlier been presented as the ADC presidential candidate, with former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi selected as his running mate.

‘2027 Election is Already Being Rigged -Seun Okinbaloye Raises Alarm

Published

on

Nigerian journalist, Seun Okinbaloye, has raised alarm that the 2027 general election is being rigged through the voters’ register.

Naija News reports that Okinbaloye raised the alarm on Friday during Channels Television’s Politics Today programme.

Okinbaloye said that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must act now and clean up the voters’ register.

He said that intelligence and early signs show that politicians have started manipulating the voters’ register, with cases of underage registration, double registration, and ghost voters already surfacing across the country.

He further called on INEC to immediately commence a thorough audit and clean-up of the voters’ register to remove fake names, dead voters, and underage voters.

Okinbaloye said Nigerians must not wait till election day to cry rigging, because the foundation for rigging is already being laid through a compromised register.

He said, “The 2027 election is already being rigged right now. Not on election day. It is being rigged with the voters’ register. If INEC does not clean it up now, we are wasting our time.

“If the register is dirty, the election is dirty. INEC must act now.”

Meanwhile, African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has called on INEC to disclose the names of the officials responsible for including Artificial Intelligence (AI)- generated photographs in the voter register.

Atiku made the call in a statement by the Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Phrank Shaibu.

He accused the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration of enabling the crisis by allowing INEC to evade scrutiny.

The former vice president said the AI-generated images scandal strikes at the heart of the commission’s credibility.

He called on opposition leaders and the international community to demand an independent audit, full disclosure and accountability on the voter register scandal.
