Inside The UK’s Nigerian Tech Boom
A new wave of Nigerian tech talent is quietly transforming the UK start-up scene – from AI to fintech, their impact is beginning to show
Across the UK’s innovative tech hotspots, a new generation of Nigerian tech professionals are shifting the paradigm and reshaping the future of the UK’s digital economy, with determination, innovation and community.
With a growing reputation as one of the most successful migrant communities in the world, Nigeria now ranks among the top contributors to the innovation boom in the UK. From leading teams at Wise, Deliveroo, BT Group and Innovate UK to founding cross-border start-ups tackling logistics, climate, and global financial inclusion, Nigerian tech professionals are silently climbing the ranks and curating a new narrative. One that speaks of resilience and technical brilliance.
Several high-profile Nigerian owned companies such as Reach Robotics (Mekamon) have raised over $12m operating in the UK digital space, a clear indicator of the impact of this diaspora community on the economy. According to data from the Home Office, Nigerians ranked among the most successful applicants for the Global Talent Visa, a clear indication of the growing presence of skilled talent from one of Africa’s fastest-growing tech ecosystems in the United Kingdom. A similar report from Tech Nation also shows Nigerians as having one of the rising demographics in the UK’s tech migration, alongside countries like India and the USA.
Nigeria has a young, tech-savvy population, with a median age of 18 years old. The country ranks among the top contributors to Africa’s 700,000 developers, with many structured training programs equipping more with skills in artificial intelligence, cloud, cyber security and more disciplines. This unique blend makes Nigerian talent very attractive in the global talent pool. Combined with high English language proficiency and a strong cultural familiarity with the UK – rooted in historical ties – Nigerians are often well-positioned to integrate quickly and contribute meaningfully in professional environments across the United Kingdom and beyond.
Another key factor that sets this diaspora community apart is how effectively they are able to translate their understanding of their own native technology ecosystem into the reality of living and working in the UK, a fluency that allows them to see what others might miss. And while platforms like LinkedIn may help in sculpting career paths, it follows that optimal connectivity and reliance are enhanced through diaspora communities such as Tech Nation Naija (TN Naija), a fast-growing network of Nigerian tech professionals in the UK digital space. Through peer mentorship, workshops and referrals, this network is quietly bridging the gaps between both ecosystems.
Networks and communities such as these are becoming pipelines for UK technology companies seeking African talent and vice versa. As such, the rise of the Nigerian tech diaspora forces a rethink of global talent. In a world where borders are tightening, these diaspora professionals are showing that innovation thrives on the movement of people, knowledge and opportunity.
For the UK, this presents access to one of the world’s youngest and fastest growing tech talent ecosystems and for Nigeria, it presents an opportunity for the perspective of migration to no longer be deemed to be a brain drain but instead to be viewed as a brain gain, as capital and knowledge return to the country through mentorship and its diaspora networks.
As the UK grapples with talent shortages and the need to diversify its tech workforce, the Nigerian diaspora offers a blueprint for not only innovation but also inclusion and integration. This quiet community may not always be at the forefront of the news cycle, but it undoubtedly has its hands on the future of the global tech ecosystem, shaping possibilities and influencing policies across the two countries.

The Oyo state government has formally honoured nine people, four civilians and five military and security personnel, who were killed during the abduction and subsequent rescue operation involving students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area (LGA).
In a memorial message posted on its official X account on Wednesday, the state government expressed gratitude for the successful rescue of the victims while mourning those who paid the ultimate price during the operation.
“While we express gratitude for the safe return of the children and teachers abducted from Oriire LGA, we also wish to honour those who lost their lives. We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families. We commit to supporting them during this trying period. May their souls rest in peace,” the government stated.
The state also released an “In Memoriam” list containing the names of civilians and security personnel who died during the Ahoro-Esinle and Yawota abduction incident.
The pupils and teachers were abducted on May 15, 2026, when gunmen attacked three schools in Ahoro-Esinle and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area.
The victims regained their freedom after spending about 57 days in captivity following a coordinated rescue operation by security agencies.
During the initial attack, two teachers— Mr Michael Oyedokun and Mr Esiyan Adegboye —were killed by the abductors. While Adegboye’s body was recovered and buried shortly after the incident, Oyedokun’s remains have yet to be found.
His family has appealed to President Bola Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde and security agencies to recover his body to enable them give him a befitting burial.
The rescue operation also claimed the lives of several military and other security personnel involved in securing the victims’ release, with the Oyo State Government paying tribute to their courage and sacrifice.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the bereaved families while honouring the memory of those who lost their lives in the line of duty and in the attack.

BREAKING: Mystery Deepens as Fresh Details Emerge in Mary Habila’s Death at Tinubu Minister’s House
The Ebonyi State Ministry of Justice has recommended that a post-mortem examination be conducted to determine the cause of death of 26-year-old Mary Habila, who was found dead at the Uburu residence of the Minister of Works, David Umahi.
The recommendation was contained in a legal advice dated July 15, 2026, and addressed to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ebonyi State Police Command.Radio
According to the document, reportedly obtained by SaharaReporters, the advice followed a police investigation into Habila’s death at the minister’s residence on June 27.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) stated that the evidence contained in the police case file was insufficient to establish the cause of her death.
The legal advice noted that Habila was found alone and unresponsive in her apartment, adding that investigators were unable to determine what led to her death based on the available evidence.
According to the DPP, there was nothing in the investigation to suggest that Habila had any known illness or underlying health condition before her sudden death.
“There was no evidence that the deceased was indisposed, sick or unstable health-wise prior to her sudden death, as she was full of life at the time she returned to Uburu in company of her team,” the document stated.
The ministry argued that, in the absence of any known medical condition, a scientific examination was necessary to establish the actual cause of death.
“From the foregoing, therefore, the question that would readily come to mind is what exactly caused the deceased’s sudden death?” the DPP queried.
It maintained that a post-mortem examination remained the most appropriate means of providing investigators with a clear direction.
“This curiosity under the law can only be resolved through a post-mortem examination, so as to provide a clue to the police as to the direction of their investigation,” the legal advice added.
The Ministry of Justice further stated that the police could either honour the family’s reported wish to proceed with burial without an autopsy or exercise their statutory powers to order the examination.
“It is therefore the view of this office that the police invoke their discretionary power to either respect the request of the deceased’s family or proceed with the post-mortem examination,” the DPP stated.
The recommendation comes amid growing public interest and conflicting reports over the release of Habila’s body for burial.
Her father, Baba Habila, reportedly visited a morgue in Ebonyi State to receive her remains ahead of a planned burial in Nok, Kaduna State, but declined to comment to journalists.
The family was also reported to have indicated that it did not intend to request an autopsy.
However, Habila’s body had reportedly not been released as investigators continued to consider the Ministry of Justice’s recommendation.
According to reports, Habila arrived at Umahi’s residence on June 26 alongside another woman identified as Anita Baski and was found unresponsive the following morning.
The case was initially reported at the Ohaozara Divisional Police Headquarters before it was transferred to the Ebonyi State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
Minister of Works David Umahi later confirmed that Habila died at his residence, describing her as a physiotherapist seconded from the David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences to the Federal Ministry of Works.
Umahi also disclosed that he had encouraged the family to consent to an autopsy to establish the cause of death.
Meanwhile, SaharaReporters, citing unnamed police sources, reported that investigators were examining aspects of Habila’s employment history and her relationship with the university and the Federal Ministry of Works.

‘Profound Sadness’: Peter Obi Grieves Death of Influential Christian Leader
Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 elections, on Thursday morning, July 16, 2026, announced the death of Reverend William Okoye, whom he described as a distinguished figure within the All Christians Fellowship Mission (ACFM).
Obi broke the news in a personal statement, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of a cleric he said belonged to a generation of spiritual leaders defined not by fame or large platforms but by the genuine depth of their influence on ordinary people.
Obi wrote in his tribute shared on his verified X page on Thursday morning, July 16: “Rev. Okoye belonged to that rare generation of spiritual leaders who understood that the true measure of ministry is not in the size of its platforms but in the depth of its impact on humanity.”
According to Obi, Rev. Okoye spent his ministry equipping people to live with purpose, discipline, and moral conviction. The politician credited the late cleric with inspiring countless individuals through his teachings, personal conduct, and leadership within the ACFM body.
The presidential hopeful described the death as a blow not only to the Okoye family and the wider Christian community but also to Nigeria as a nation, noting that the country currently stands in need of voices capable of fostering unity and healing.
He said: “His passing is a great loss to his family, the entire All Christians Fellowship Mission (ACFM), the Body of Christ, and our dear nation, Nigeria, at a time when our country yearns for voices that unite, heal, and inspire people to pursue justice, peace, and compassion.”
While acknowledging the grief surrounding the cleric’s departure, Obi struck a note of celebration, saying the life Rev. Okoye lived warranted recognition rather than grief alone.
He expressed confidence that the values the reverend championed would outlast his physical presence and continue shaping lives across generations.
Obi closed his tribute with a direct appeal, urging those who mourn the cleric to honour his memory by committing themselves to selfless living, sincere love, and diligent work toward building a just and peaceful Nigeria.
Obi concluded: “May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
