Anambra 2025: Soludo Confident, Says APC Has No Base

Published

on

The All Progressives Grand Alliance candidate for the November 8 Anambra state governorship election, Governor Charles Soludo, has mocked the All Progressives Congress, saying it lacks the foundation to win in the state.

Soludo, speaking during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, also stated that APGA members would approach the election as though they were the underdog.

He stated, “Again, about the premise you set about federal might, I guess your premise needs to be interrogated a little, because when the premise is wrong, the conclusion becomes problematic.

“When you referenced Edo, Imo, and Kogi—that’s a bit off. In fact, you’re actually making my case: in Imo, it was the incumbent APC that got re-elected. In Kogi, the incumbent APC got re-elected. In Edo, APC holds three of the Senate seats, several members of the House of Representatives, and several members of the state House of Assembly. They went into that election with APC and PDP almost neck and neck—it was like a coin toss.

“Now, wind down to Anambra. In Anambra, APC doesn’t even have a councillor. Not even one. In all previous elections, they’ve never been able to get traction. Look at the last several elections—general elections and local government elections—not even 3–4% of the votes. You can’t put something on nothing, so to speak,.”

The governor expressed his faith in the Independent National Electoral Commission and voiced confidence that his party would emerge victorious.

He stated, “I am a democrat. I believe in democracy. We’re not taking anything for granted. Every contest is a contest. Even though, from what is on the ground now, any fair assessment would ask—”Who are you really contesting with?”

“But we’re not thinking that way. Every contest is a contest. There is no wrestling match that’s a joke. We will be contesting like we are the underdog when the time comes.

“And this scare about interference—except people don’t come out to vote, the people will vote.

“I have confidence in the institutions organizing the election. I have confidence in INEC, in the President, and in the federal government—that they understand democracy and will ensure a level playing field. Everyone will go to the field and do the work.

“So for me, even as we talk about elections and all that, like I told you, I am focused on the main task—delivering on the mandate the people gave me. On security, on the economy, on reducing the number of out-of-school children to the lowest in the country, on building upon our strengths in health, where we are national and regional champions in primary healthcare, and on the infrastructure revolution underway.”

Primate Elijah Ayodele, the founder and spiritual leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has issued a stern warning to Nigerian governors regarding their aspirations for a second term in office in 2027.

In a public statement released by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele elaborated on the challenges these governors may face in their quest for re-election,  indicating that without sincere efforts and dedication, their ambitions for a second term might be hindered.

The warning serves as a wake-up call for these leaders to recognize the potential obstacles ahead and to engage in the necessary actions to secure their political futures.

“The governors of Akwa Ibom, Delta, Enugu, Cross River, Kaduna, Zamfara, and Ondo must work well to get a second term in office.

“It’s not certain for them except they work hard and pray. This is a hint of what they should be expecting.

“They need to work very well so that they won’t lose their second-term ambition,” he revealed.

Primate Ayodele also warned the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, to be careful and prayerful so that his second term as Senate President will not be traded.

“Senate President Godswill Akpabio must be very careful and prayerful to get a second term as Senate president. I see his position being traded; he must work very hard to avoid it.”

Likewise, Primate Ayodele revealed that prominent senators and members of the House of Representatives will not return for a second term, too, while warning Ned Nwoko of Delta against his governorship ambition, saying it’s not yet his time.

Niger Poised As Decentralized Electricity Model Under Tinubu's Act – Santuraki

Special adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on policy communication, Daniel Bwala, ruled out the possibility of any political figure, including for- mer President Goodluck Jonathan, defeating Tinubu the 2027 election

Bwala, who was a guest on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’, was asked if there is a need to worry over the recent clamour for Jonathan to run for of- fice in 2027

Some political stakeholders have claimed that Jonathan would be one of the leading candidates to confront incumbent President Tinubu in the 2027 general election

dailyvoice.ng reports that rumours swirled in Nigeria over a possible 2027 presidential run by ex-leader Goodluck Jonathan.

Bwala’s video can be watched here

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday night, August 12 nonitored by Legit.ng, Bwala spoke on if a Jonathan comeback bid could rattle President Tinubu

Recently, former Jigawa state governor, Sule Lamido, threw his weight behind Jonathan as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) strongest option or the 2027 presidential election.

This is as he urged the party to “woo” him back into its fold.

Reacting to the CaMS for Jonathan to contest against Tinubu, Bwala said:

“I see that some unscrupulous elements are trying to hoodwink former President Goodluck Jonathan to come into politics so that they can destroy his reputation, which after he left government he has been building by becoming an international figure globally.”

Bwala explained that Tinubu has ‘captured”the, south south geopolitical zone where Jonathan comes from.

He continued: “The elements that are going to him in the north, asking him to run, where they not the ones that chased him away? So, what hope does he have that this time around, they are calling him because they mean well for him?

“Then, look at the political class that are coming to- gether to cajole him to come into politics. I know former President Goodluck Jonathan is smarter than that. But if former President Jonathan decides to run, let me tell you, I have seen the political cli- mate in Nigeria today, andt will speak to facts, not conjectures, there is not a single politician that has the capacity to knock off President Bola Tinubu – in all fronts.”
