Nigeria, Benin Sign Integration Pact

President Bola Tinubu has announced the appointment of Senator Ibrahim Ida as chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) as well as the nomination of seven others for the vacant commissioner positions at the National Population Commission (NPC).

Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser to the president on information and strategy, announced the development in a statement seen by Legit.ng.

According to the statement, Ida holds a master’s degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Ibadan (1983) and an LLB from the University of Abuja (2003).

He had served as the commissioner for finance in Katsina state and a one-term permanent secretary of the Federal Civil Service before he was elected in 2017 to represent the people of Kaduna Central senatorial district in the national assembly.

List of new NPC commissioners

Aside from Ida’s appointment, the NPC commissioner nominees are listed below:

Kolawole Oladipupo Alabi – Ekiti State

Nasiru Mu’azu – Zamfara State

Usman Abubakar Tuggar – Bauchi State

Dr. Isaka Alada Yahaya – Kwara State

Prof. Sadiq Isah Radda – Katsina State

Suleiman Umar – Jigawa State

Hon. Chiso Abdullahi Dattijo – Sokoto State

This is coming amid the resignation of some cabinet members ahead of the 2027 general elections. Those who have resigned included Yusuf Tuggar, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who resigned to pursue his governorship ambition in Bauchi State.

The resignation followed the president’s directive that all political appointees seeking elective positions in the 2027 general election should resign on or before March 31, as stated in Nigeria’s electoral law.

The Honourable Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has formally resigned from his position in the Federal Executive Council, citing his intention to contest the Oyo State governorship election.

In a resignation letter addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and routed through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Adelabu expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve in the administration.

“I write with profound gratitude to formally tender my resignation as Honourable Minister of Power,” the letter read.

Adelabu thanked the President for the confidence reposed in him and the privilege of contributing to the development of Nigeria’s power sector under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He noted that his decision to step down was driven by his aspiration to contest for the office of Governor of Oyo State, stating that the move would allow him to fully dedicate his time and resources to the political pursuit.

“It has been a privilege contributing to efforts aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s power sector,” he added.

The former minister also conveyed his highest respect and appreciation to the President, reaffirming his commitment to national service.

Adelabu, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, is expected to join the growing list of aspirants positioning for the 2027 governorship race in Oyo State.

TVC News Online recently reported that Adelabu apologised to Nigeria for the poor power supply and promised improvement in two weeks.

BREAKING: Court Takes Fresh Action On El-Rufai’s Case

Published

on

The Federal High Court in Kaduna on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of the bail application filed by former Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, till Wednesday.

Counsel to the former governor, Ukpong Abang (SAN), who declined detailed comments on the proceedings, confirmed the development shortly after the court session.

“I’m sorry, I can’t talk now, we are in the middle of work. I have to go and file responses. The hearing of the bail application has been adjourned till tomorrow,” he said.

El-Rufai was subsequently taken away from the court premises by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in a white Hilux vehicle.

Earlier, the former governor had returned to the Federal High Court amid tight security for the hearing of his bail application in an ongoing corruption trial.

The heavy security presence mirrored the situation during his arraignment last week, when he was first brought before the court.

El-Rufai had been arraigned before Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa on a 10-count charge bordering on alleged conversion and possession of public property, as well as money laundering.

He was produced in court after spending over a month in detention, drawing widespread public attention to the high-profile case.

The court had fixed March 31, 2026, for the hearing of pending applications, including his bail request.

However, on March 27, 2026, the ICPC released him on compassionate grounds following the death of his mother, Hajiya Ummar El-Rufai, in Cairo, Egypt.

In a related development, El-Rufai was earlier on Tuesday arraigned before a Kaduna State High Court sitting in Kawo on separate charges.

At the State High Court, he was docked alongside one Amadu Sule on allegations ranging from abuse of office and fraud to intent to commit fraud and conferring undue advantage.

The charges, also instituted by the ICPC, are distinct from those before the Federal High Court.

After the State High Court proceedings, the commission moved El-Rufai to the Federal High Court, located within the same premises.

With the adjournment, proceedings on the bail application are now expected to continue on Wednesday.

Akpabio Advocates For Human Capital Growth

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has reaffirmed legislative and political backing for the creation of Anioma state.

Akpabio spoke on Wednesday, while addressing party members at the South-South zonal congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Asaba, Delta state.

The Senate president said the President Bola Tinubu administration remains committed to the initiative.

Akpabio said Warri would serve as the capital of the new Delta state if Anioma is created.

He said Warri already has key infrastructure, including an airport, government offices, major oil companies, a seaport, and a stadium.

Governors of Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross River attended the congress.

Other political leaders and party stakeholders from across the south-south region were also at the event.

Akpabio described the agitation for Anioma state as historically justified, noting that the proposal reflects a long-standing aspiration rooted in equity, administrative efficiency, and balanced development.

The senate president said the initiative, championed by Ned Nwoko, senator representing Delta North, has continued to receive legislative attention.

Akpabio added that the proposal ranks among the priorities of the 10th Senate, adding that the creation of Anioma state would come with socio-economic and administrative benefits.

The ex-Akwa Ibom governor said the restructuring would split Delta state into two viable entities and promote decentralisation.

“Anioma state will be created, with Asaba as its capital. The senate fully supports the initiative spearheaded by Senator Ned Nwoko,” he said.

“This step will usher in a new era of development and shared prosperity for all constituent communities.

“With Asaba as Anioma state capital, Warri will be the capital of the new Delta.”

Akpabio also called for unity among the people of the south-south region.

He urged stakeholders to support the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration, emphasising that such support would promote sustainable growth and national integration.

In November 2025, Nwoko announced that the bid to create Anioma state has gained significant momentum, with constitutional amendment committees and Tinubu backing the endeavour.

He said 97 senators previously signed a document endorsing the move, describing the level of support as unprecedented.
