2027 Election: Tension In APC As Senators, Reps Kick Against Tinubu’s Decision

APC Schedules July 24 NEC For Ganduje Replacement

The decision by President Bola Tinubu to empower Governors to decide the fate of aspirants ahead of the 2027 general election is now causing unease in the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

BusinessDay authoritatively gathered that following Wednesday’s closed-door meeting with members of the Senate Caucus, the President on Thursday, met with the Governors where he urged them to give soft landing to the law makers, while taking control of the election process in their states.

It was gathered that the lawmakers, ahead of the forthcoming party primaries in the APC had pleaded with the President to prevail on the Governors to grant them automatic tickets.

Their request was predicated on the earlier promise which they said was given by the President.

But Presidency sources said the Thursday meeting with the Governors was to plead with them on power sharing with the lawmakers.

According to the source ” The President reminded the lawmakers on Wednesday, that not all of them can come back to the National Assembly, even if he wants to help them

”Already, many had rotational arrangements which they know must be kept. Many of them have been there for years and others should be given an opportunity.”

BusinessDay gathered that the President is particularly under pressures from Senators who are insisting that they want to return.

BusinessDay gathered that some states are already embroiled in deep crisis as some Governors who want to come to the Senate are working to displace those currently occupying those positions.

Following the development, President Tinubu directed the party hierarchy to work with stakeholders in their states to resolve the issue to prevent it from snowballing into major crisis for the party.

The development may have been one of the direct fallout of the mass defections of Governors from the Peoples Democratic Party PDP to the ruling APC.

It was gathered that many of the Governors apart from seeking for post 2027 soft landing, also demanded and got approvals to control the structure of the party in their respective states.

It was also gathered that apart from the challenges from the lawmakers requests, some of the Governors are also facing challenges from some party ” godfathers” in their states, over struggle for who produce the next Governors in their states

In Adamawa, the development has pitched Governor Ahmadu Fintiri against supporters of Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser NSA, who was considered the leader of the APC before Fintiri joined the party.

It was gathered that while Ribadu and other party stakeholders in the state favours Ahmed Aminu Galadima, the immediate past Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Trust Development Fund PTDF for the Governorship position, Fintiri is insisting on being allowed to produce his successor

It is feared that the issue, if not properly handled, may lead to implosion in the party.

Tinubu’s Former Minister Officially Declares Bid for 2027 Election, Details Emerge

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has announced his intention to contest the Bauchi State governorship in the 2027 general election.

The former lawmaker, who represented Gamawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives after his election in 2007 on the platform of the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP), made his declaration known in Bauchi yesterday.

He said his decision to join the race was driven by a desire to improve residents’ living conditions and unlock the state’s potential, rather than by personal ambition.

According to him, Bauchi State possesses vast resources, yet many citizens still struggle with poverty, poor access to quality education, and inadequate healthcare services.

Drawing on his experience in business and agriculture, Tuggar said he understands the challenges facing entrepreneurs, farmers, and livestock owners, and stressed that these sectors would receive priority attention under his leadership.

The governorship hopeful, who contested the seat in 2011 on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and later sought the ticket again in 2015, said his years in opposition politics shaped his resilience and broadened his understanding of governance. He also reiterated the need for regular and timely payment of workers’ salaries.

Tuggar outlined agriculture, rural development, and economic expansion as central pillars of his agenda. He pledged to support farmers, boost livestock production, encourage agro-processing, and improve rural infrastructure, including roads and storage facilities, to make agriculture more profitable.

He also promised to strengthen local markets across the state, noting their importance to livelihoods and economic activities.

On security, Tuggar expressed concern over rising threats and proposed community-based approaches, dialogue, and closer collaboration with traditional institutions to restore safety.

He said his administration would also focus on youth empowerment through educational reforms, digital skills development, support for entrepreneurship, and the establishment of technology hubs.

In the health sector, he pledged to enhance maternal and child healthcare, strengthen public hospitals, and expand social protection for vulnerable groups.

Tuggar commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve as minister, saying the position gave him deeper insight into governance and strengthened his capacity to serve the state’s people.

The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has raised the alarm over an alleged plot by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to disrupt a summit scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday.

In a statement on Saturday morning, the opposition coalition spokesperson claimed that after being denied access to venues in Abuja, efforts were now being made to frustrate their gathering in Ibadan.

He said the development reflects a pattern of interference aimed at weakening opposition activities.

Abdullahi further accused the ruling party of hypocrisy, noting that while it publicly claims not to be threatened, its actions suggest otherwise.

Despite the alleged plot, the ADC Spokesman maintained that it would go ahead with the summit.

He said: “We have uncovered plans by the ruling APC to disrupt the summit being held by the opposition parties in Ibadan, Oyo State, today, 25th of April.

“After denying us the use of venues in Abuja, they now will not leave us alone to hold our meetings.

“They say they are not scared, but they are behaving like people who are terrified. But we will not be deterred, because we are on the side of the Nigerian people.”
