3 Spectacular Festivals In Nigeria To Experience During Eid (Sallah) 2026

Published

on

Across the country, cities and towns erupt into colourful celebrations filled with hypnotic music, royal horse riding, high-fashion statements, and rich culinary displays.

For travellers and locals alike, the Sallah season offers the ultimate window to experience Nigerian culture at its peak.

From the majestic, centuries-old Durbars of the North to the colourful, equestrian display of Ojude Oba, here are the absolute best events to attend during Eid in Nigeria.

The Durbar Festival is arguably the grandest cultural attraction during Eid in Nigeria. This centuries-old tradition takes place across major ancient emirates following both Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.

The Famous Kano Durbar (Day 2 of Eid)

The Kano Durbar is the undisputed heavyweight of Northern Nigerian tourism. Thousands of royal horsemen parade through the ancient city clad in magnificent regalia.

Led by the Emir of Kano, the procession features traditional musicians, acrobats, and praise singers. The horses themselves are an art piece, decorated with expensive, colourful textiles and silver ornament.

Katsina, Zaria, and Bauchi Durbars (Day 1, 2 & 3 of Eid)

If you want to avoid the massive crowds of Kano but still experience pure royal prestige, the Durbars in Katsina, Zaria (Zazzau Emirate), and Bauchi offer equally breathtaking horse-riding displays and deep historical insight.

2. The Ilorin Grand Durbar (Kwara State)

Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, hosts a rapidly growing Sallah Durbar that beautifully combines Yoruba and Fulani cultures.

3. The Ojude Oba Festival (Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State)

If the North is known for the Durbar, the Southwest is defined by Ojude Oba. Taking place exactly three days after Eid al-Kabir (Big Sallah), this is one of the most covered cultural festivals on African social media.

This year, the Ojude Oba festival is set to take place on Friday, the 30th of May.

While Ojude Oba originated as a small gathering of Muslim converts paying homage to the Awujale (King) of Ijebuland for allowing them to practise Islam, it has evolved into a completely non-religious, massive celebration of Ijebu heritage, uniting Muslims, Christians, and traditionalists alike.

What to expect:

The Regberegbe (Age Grades): Different age groups compete in a dazzling display of wealth, elite fashion, and custom-tailored Aso-Ebi (matching luxury fabrics).

The Baloguns: The descendants of the city’s wartime commanders ride into the venue on horseback, firing traditional muskets into the air in salute to the King.

Pro-travel tips for Sallah 2026

Book accommodation early: Cities like Kano and Ijebu-Ode sell out their best hotels months before the festivals.

Hire a local guide: For events like the Northern Durbars, a local guide is crucial to securing prime viewing spots safely.

Dress respectfully: While Lagos and Ojude Oba embrace high fashion and modern styles, conservative, modest clothing is highly recommended when attending Northern Durbar.

Violence Is Never An Option – BBNaija Disqualifies Keivo For Beating Tram

Published

on

Big Brother Naija ‘Show Ya Sef’ housemate, Victor Ikpe, popularly known as Keivo, has been disqualified from the reality television show after getting into a physical fight with fellow housemate, Tram.

Naija News reports that the disqualification was announced by Big Brother on Tuesday after the housemates were called to the lounge to watch footage of the incident.

The clips showed the confrontation between Keivo and Tram, after which Big Brother informed the housemates that Keivo had been removed from the competition.

Big Brother identified Keivo as the person who initiated the physical attack and ruled that he could no longer continue in the reality show.

He said: “Keivo, as the perpetrator, has been removed from the house. He is therefore disqualified from the house. Violence is never an option.”

The announcement came shortly after Keivo’s name disappeared from the official voting platform.

The incident happened on Monday during the final week of the show after Tram accused Keivo of taking a black shirt that belonged to him.

Keivo denied taking Tram’s shirt, explaining that he had a similar shirt and objected to being accused of stealing.

The disagreement later became heated before Keivo punched Tram.

Other housemates moved in to stop the fight, but the situation had already attracted Big Brother’s attention.

Big Brother then instructed the housemates to remain still while three ninjas entered the house and took Keivo out through the storeroom.

Before leaving, Keivo became emotional while discussing the incident.

He explained that his reaction was linked to the accusation against him and not only the disagreement over the shirt.

Keivo also expressed concern that his actions could cause viewers to see him as a thief.

He told Big Brother that he did not want the incident to become the main thing people remembered about him from his time on the show.

The disqualification comes just days before the grand finale, which is scheduled to hold on October 4.

The eventual winner of the season is expected to take home a ₦160 million grand prize.

Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has spoken about his experience with the rising cost of goods and services in Nigeria.Naija News reports that the father of two said he does not directly feel the impact of inflation in his daily life. BreakingNews Alerts

The singer made this known while speaking on the 90s Baby Podcast, where he explained that he often learns about price increases from his staff rather than through personal shopping.

Adekunle Gold said he does not usually visit supermarkets or personally handle the purchase of household food items, making it difficult for him to immediately notice changes in prices.

He explained that he would only become aware of an increase when his staff members bring it to his attention, using the rising price of sardines as an example.

“I don’t feel the inflation going on in the country directly. Until my staff tell me sardines have increased in the market, I’ll be like, ‘Really?’ I wouldn’t know because I don’t go to the supermarket. Or when we buy foodstuff, it’s more often than usual,” he said.

Daily Voice reports Nigeria’s headline inflation rate dropped slightly to 15.39 per cent in August 2026, showing a 0.04 percentage point decline from the 15.43 per cent recorded in July.

The latest figure was contained in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) report released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

According to the NBS, the August inflation rate was also significantly lower than the 23.14 per cent recorded in August 2025.

The statistics agency said the month-on-month inflation rate also slowed in August, falling to 0.71 per cent from 1.57 per cent in July.
