“Resign Now!” — Peter Obi Fires Explosive Warning at Tinubu
Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has called for the resignation of President Bola Tinubu.
Obi, in a statement on Monday via his 𝕏 Account, based his call on the decision of the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, to resign from office.
According to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) 2027 presidential candidate, the developments that led to Starmer’s resignation are similar to those Nigerians are experiencing with President Tinubu; hence, the expected outcome is for Tinubu to resign from office.
Naija News reports that the former Labour Party presidential candidate said Starmer resigned from office due to mounting public frustration over a stagnant economy, a worsening cost-of-living crisis, and a perceived failure to honour key campaign pledges.
He argued that Nigerians have endured economic hardship, failed campaign promises and insecurity under Tinubu’s leadership, and the honourable thing is for him to resign as Nigeria’s president.
Obi recalled how Tinubu championed calls for former President Goodluck Jonathan to resign from office, adding that Nigerians have faced greater challenges under the current administration than during the Jonathan era.
In his view, President Tinubu has failed as Nigeria’s leader and should resign.
Below is the full statement.
“This morning, I listened to the British Prime Minister’s speech announcing his planned resignation in July. As a keen observer of global politics, my primary interest lies in examining what successful nations do right and the structural factors that cause others to lag or struggle with governance and development.

“The Prime Minister’s planned resignation comes amid mounting public frustration over a stagnant economy, a worsening cost-of-living crisis, and a perceived failure to honour key campaign pledges.
“Looking inward in our dear country, we can recall our own situation. Before 2015, our President on several occasions championed the call for the then President Goodluck Jonathan to resign over economic hardship and insecurity affecting Nigerians. During the Chibok school kidnapping incident, he demanded the immediate resignation of President Jonathan, arguing that the government had failed in its most fundamental duty of protecting lives.
“During the 2023 election campaign, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made several promises, including improved electricity supply. He also challenged the electorate not to vote for him for a second term if he failed to deliver on those commitments—particularly in providing stable power, fighting corruption, and improving the welfare of Nigerians.
“At present, however, these conditions have worsened. Electricity supply remains unreliable, insecurity has intensified in many areas, including kidnappings, and economic hardship has deepened rather than eased. Similar concerns are reflected across other critical sectors such as security, infrastructure, transportation, and anti-corruption efforts, all of which have regressed. We are in the worst possible condition.
“I, therefore, join Nigerians of goodwill in calling for the resignation of the President over monumental failure in governance. Such a gesture would help enthrone a political culture rooted in accountability and responsibility, rather than further entrenching impunity. It would also send a powerful message that public office is a sacred trust, not an entitlement, and help build a society in which future leaders understand that failure carries consequences. Only by ending the culture of impunity can we secure a better future for the society our children will inherit in a New Nigeria that is possible.”

Tinubu Announces Top Fresh Appointment (PHOTO)
President Bola Tinubu has appointed former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Temitayo Ogundipe as chairman of the governing board of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
His appointment, announced in a statement on Monday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, follows the resignation of Emeritus Professor Olufemi Raphael Aina from the position after less than one year in office.
President Tinubu appointed Professor Aina in July last year, and the board members were inaugurated in November 2025.
Ogundipe, who was a former VC of UniLag between 2017–2022, is a professor of Botany with expertise in molecular plant taxonomy, biosystematics, ethnobotany, cytogenetics, forensic botany, and ecological conservation.
He holds a PhD in Botany from Obafemi Awolowo University and an MBA from the University of Lagos.
Currently, Professor Ogundipe, 66, serves as Pro-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State.
He is a fellow of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Academy of Science, the Linnaean Society of London, and the Royal Society of Biology, London.
He has also served as President of the Botanical Society of Nigeria and Chairman of the Lagos State Science, Research and Innovation Council (LASRIC).
As NUC Chairman, Professor Ogundipe will oversee the regulatory body of the Nigerian university system, focusing on funding, global competitiveness and academic stability.
Onanuga said the President expects Ogundipe to provide visionary leadership at the NUC and sustain the credibility of the Nigerian university system, in alignment with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, by advancing quality, access, and integrity in the education sector.

BREAKING: Police Releases Fresh Updates on Rescue of Oyo Abducted Pupils, Teachers
The South-West Coordinating Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, has expressed confidence that the ongoing initiatives by security agencies and government entities will lead to the release of the abducted schoolchildren and their teachers in Oyo State.
This statement was made during his official visit to the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja on Monday.
Fayoade also discussed strategies to enhance police operations, emphasising the need for increased manpower, better welfare packages for officers, and the integration of technology and intelligence gathering in policing efforts.
Speaking on the abduction, the DIG said security agencies remained focused on rescuing the victims rather than discussing ransom demands.
“The update is that all agencies, including government, are working very hard. I can assure you that within the shortest possible time, the children and their teachers will be free,” he said.
Responding to reports that the abductors had shifted from demanding the release of some of their leaders to seeking ransom and the release of foot soldiers, Fayoade said the police had no knowledge of such developments.
“We don’t know anything about ransom because we don’t talk about ransom. All efforts are directed towards getting the abductees free from captivity,” he stated.
The DIG explained that his visit to Lagos was aimed at strengthening supervision across commands in the South-West and engaging officers on emerging security challenges.
“It is a working visit to strengthen supervision and engage our officers and men in discussions on effective ways to tackle the evolving security challenges facing the country,” he said.
According to him, manpower shortages, personnel welfare and operational logistics featured prominently during discussions with officers.
He disclosed that plans were underway to improve manpower, noting that the recruitment of 40,000 police personnel had already commenced.
“Another area of importance is the welfare of our men, which remains a top priority for the Inspector-General of Police,” he added.
Fayoade said the vision of the Inspector-General is to motivate officers through improved welfare and the provision of necessary operational tools.
He also revealed that the Force was investing heavily in technology and data management systems to enhance policing nationwide.
“The Inspector-General is passionate about technology. We are working to complete a data centre at the Force Headquarters that will allow security agencies to access information on individuals with criminal records.
“It will also help us deploy resources more effectively. At the same time, we are working on the use of Artificial Intelligence for investigations and intelligence gathering,” he said.
The DIG noted that several breakthroughs recorded by police formations across the country were products of sustained investments in technical training and intelligence-led policing.
“Many of our activities are underreported. Policing is a 24-hour job and our officers are making arrests and recording successes daily. It may not be enough yet, but I assure you we will improve tremendously,” he said.
On public communication, Fayoade directed the Lagos State Command to ensure that operational achievements are adequately publicised.
“I have instructed the Commissioner of Police to ensure that every achievement is reported so members of the public can see the efforts being made.
“Even when we arrest an ordinary housebreaker, the public should know. If our reporting has not been sufficient, we will improve on it,” he said.
The DIG further highlighted ongoing efforts to modernise policing through upgraded data centres, control rooms and intelligence systems capable of predicting crime trends and enabling quicker responses.
“Technology will help us predict incidents, allocate resources more effectively and prevent crimes before they occur.
“Very soon, our officers will begin attending courses on the use of AI in investigations and intelligence gathering. We are becoming technology-driven and moving rapidly in that direction,” he added.
Fayoade also emphasised the importance of mutual respect between police officers and members of the public.
“Our officers will carry out their duties with respect, dignity and regard for citizens’ rights. We also expect members of the public to reciprocate that respect as officers discharge their responsibilities professionally,” he said.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai, described the DIG’s visit as a homecoming and praised his leadership.
“Your visit today is indeed a homecoming. It is a privilege to have our amiable DIG with us to share his wealth of experience, knowledge and guidance with officers and men of the command,” he said.
Fatai disclosed that the Lagos State Police Command, established in 1967 with four Area Commands and 22 divisions, has expanded significantly to meet the demands of the state’s growing population.
According to him, the command now has 14 Area Commands, 117 divisions, 74 police posts and a workforce of 25,096 personnel.
He attributed the decline in major crimes to intelligence-led operations, modern policing techniques and support from the police leadership, the Lagos State Government and other stakeholders.
“The command has fully implemented various crime-prevention strategies, intelligence-driven operations and modern policing techniques. Consequently, crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, murder and cultism have recorded significant declines,” he said.
Presenting the command’s scorecard since assuming office on March 26, 2026, Fatai said 28 armed robbery incidents were foiled, while 71 robbery suspects and 133 cultism suspects were arrested.
He added that 44 murder cases were reported during the period, leading to the arrest of 35 suspects, while four traffic robbery suspects were also arrested and charged to court.
The commissioner further disclosed that the command recovered 60 firearms and 625 rounds of ammunition, impounded 122 vehicles for driving against traffic and seized 1,580 motorcycles for various traffic offences, including illegal use of Bus Rapid Transit corridors.
However, he noted that the achievements came at a cost.
“It saddens me to inform the DIG that seven personnel lost their lives in the line of duty, while 300 others sustained various injuries,” he said, requesting a minute’s silence in honour of the fallen officers.
Fatai reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining its crime-fighting efforts and maintaining Lagos as one of the safest states in the country.
“By the grace of God, the Lagos State Police Command remains at the forefront of crime prevention and control. Our officers and men are more determined than ever to sustain the momentum and keep the flag flying,” he said.

BREAKING: Police Exposes Igboho Over Release of Kidnap Victims; Truth Emerges
Confusion has emerged over the fate of victims abducted in Igbope, Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State, after both the local council chairman and the Oyo State Police Command dismissed reports suggesting that the captives had been freed.
The claims followed a video circulating on social media on Saturday showing large crowds of residents singing and dancing with Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
The jubilation was described as a celebration of the release of the victims, a woman, her children, and a sibling.
They were said to be released following Igboho’s issuance of a two-hour ultimatum to suspected kidnappers and Fulani community leaders, demanding their release.
However, both local and state authorities have refuted these reports.
In a statement on Sunday, the Oorelope Local Government Chairman, Jacob Ogundiran, described the claims as false and misleading.
“The attention of the Oorelope Local Government Area leadership has been drawn to circulating rumours and unverified reports claiming the release of the kidnapping victims.
“We state authoritatively that these reports are false and misleading. The victims are still in captivity, and we urge the public to discountenance any information to the contrary unless it comes from credible sources,” the statement read.
Ogundiran assured that security agencies at state and local levels are intensifying efforts to secure the victims’ safe rescue, while commending community leaders, residents, and stakeholders for providing intelligence and support. He emphasised that the protection of lives and property remains a top priority.
The spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, also debunked claims that the hostages had been released or that Igboho played any role in their rescue.
“Whatever the activist is doing, if the said victims are still in captivity, I don’t know. Efforts are ongoing to rescue them.
“Meanwhile, the victims were not even kidnapped in Igboho. They were kidnapped at Igbope,” he told our correspondent in a phone call.
The abduction occurred during a midnight attack when gunmen kidnapped members of a family.
The kidnappers initially reportedly demanded N300 million in ransom, later reducing it to N150 million.
Following the incident, Igboho issued a stern warning to suspected Fulani community leaders in the area over rising cases of kidnapping and insecurity.
In the earlier viral video, Igboho was seen addressing community representatives and traditional leaders, where he expressed anger over alleged killings and abductions in the area.
He accused some members of the Fulani community of kidnapping residents and referenced incidents involving a pregnant woman and ransom negotiations that reportedly turned deadly.
“The person who brought the ransom, you still killed him and spared only one person,” he said, while warning that such incidents must not repeat.
Igboho also issued a two-hour ultimatum for the release of other abducted victims, stressing that he had shown restraint following appeals from traditional rulers.
“I am Sunday Igboho. I am calm because my fathers asked me to be calm with you. Let this be the last time such a thing will happen,” he said.
He further warned that failure to comply would trigger decisive action, including threats of entering suspected hideouts linked to the kidnappings.
