Top APC Governor Announces Running Mate for 2027

Published

on

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has nominated his deputy, Murtala Garo, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued in Kano by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sunusi Dawakin Tofa, on Monday.

The governor made the declaration during a strategic meeting with federal political appointees of President Bola Tinubu at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

Governor Yusuf said the decision was based on Mr Garo’s loyalty, competence and commitment to the development of the state since assuming office as deputy governor.

He described Mr Garo as a dependable partner who had consistently demonstrated competence and a strong sense of responsibility, and expressed satisfaction with their working relationship.

The governor also passed a vote of confidence on the deputy governor, saying his contributions had strengthened the administration’s efforts to deliver meaningful development and improve the welfare of the people of Kano State.

He called on party leaders, political appointees and supporters to remain united and committed as the administration consolidates its achievements ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mr Yusuf, who was elected on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in 2023, is seeking reelection as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), having defected to the federal ruling party earlier this year.

BREAKING: Top ADC Chieftain Dumps Party, Gives Reason

Published

Former National Vice Chairman (North-West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Mohammed Lukman, has suspended his membership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the opposition coalition.
Lukman announced his decision in a message addressed to the National Chairman of the ADC, Senator David Mark, and copied to coalition leaders.

He attributed his exit to what he described as persistent hostile treatment by former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, and his associates over the leadership and direction of the coalition in Kaduna State.

“This may come to you as a disappointment. I am very sorry. I just can’t continue to bear the painful hostile treatment I keep getting from some leaders from Kaduna, especially Mallam Nasir,” he wrote.

Lukman alleged that decisions concerning the coalition’s leadership in Kaduna were manipulated to sideline him, saying he had been reduced “to the status of a bastard” within a coalition he had worked to build. He said he had spent more than a year working to reconcile and unite opposition leaders in Kaduna but had instead become the target of what he described as an orchestrated campaign by El-Rufai and his supporters.
“For Mallam Nasir and his people, I am the problem. I have decided to resolve the problem for them and everyone,” he said.

The former APC chieftain said he decided to suspend both his ADC and coalition memberships because it was better “to be inactive than to continue to chase dashed expectations.”

Lukman also questioned the coalition’s commitment to democratic values, accusing some of its leaders of replicating the same political practices they had previously criticised.

He further alleged that former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, was engaging individuals in Kaduna whose commitment to building the ADC was questionable while ignoring those who had invested in strengthening the party’s structures.

According to him, the developments had steadily eroded his confidence in the coalition and reduced the ADC to what he described as “a marginal participant” in preparations for the 2027 general elections.

He, however, expressed appreciation to Senator David Mark and other national leaders of the coalition, saying his decision was not a protest against the party’s national leadership but against what he described as the treatment he received from El-Rufai and some coalition leaders in Kaduna.

2027 Election Shock: Three Parties Miss INEC Deadline, Presidential Ambitions in Jeopardy

Published

on

Three political parties failed to submit their presidential and vice-presidential candidates on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal, which closed at 11:59 pm on Tuesday.

This was confirmed by an INEC official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to comment publicly on the matter.

Daily voice understands that the affected parties are the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Nyesom Wike, and the Labour Party (LP) faction led by Nenadi Usman.

“As of now, only about three political parties are yet to upload the names of their presidential and running mate candidates. They are APGA, the PDP (Wike faction) and the LP (Nenadi faction). Virtually every other party has filed its candidates,” the official said as quoted by Daily Trust.

The commission had warned that no further extension would be granted.

Apart from the three parties said to have missed the deadline for uploading their candidates, the INEC official said almost all registered political parties have successfully uploaded the names of their candidates for the 2027 general elections.

The 2027 presidential election is scheduled to be held on Saturday, 16th January.
