Alleged Fraud Proceed: EFCC Reveals How Much Found In ex-NNPCL GMD Mele Kyari’s Jaiz Bank Accounts

The Federal High Court in Abuja temporarily froze four bank accounts belonging to former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, over allegations of fraud.
According to The Punch, Justice Emeka Nwite issued the order on Tuesday after considering an urgent application brought before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), represented by counsel Ogechi Ujam, who explained that investigations into Kyari were still ongoing.
It was reported that the EFCC had, filed the application seeking to freeze the accounts, on the basis that Kyari was being investigated for conspiracy, abuse of office, and money laundering. The agency disclosed that preliminary findings indicated the accounts, domiciled with Jaiz Bank, contained over ₦661 million suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities.…click for details
Justice Nwite stated that he had thoroughly reviewed the evidence and documents presented and found sufficient grounds to grant the request. The court fixed September 23 as the date for the next hearing.
An affidavit sworn to by Amin Abdullahi, an investigator with the EFCC’s Special Investigation Section, stated that the Guardian of Democracy and Rule of Law had, on April 24, lodged a petition against Kyari. Abdullahi explained that his team obtained bank records, corporate documents, and interviewed individuals and company representatives linked to the transactions.
The investigation allegedly revealed that substantial sums were transferred from the NNPCL and oil companies connected to the corporation into Kyari’s Jaiz Bank accounts. Although the accounts were said to be under Kyari’s control, they were reportedly operated using family members as proxies.
The court order covered two accounts in Kyari’s name and two others belonging to the “Guwori Community Development Foundation.” The EFCC also directed Jaiz Bank to produce hard copies of all statements of account.
It was further disclosed that a temporary “no debit” order had earlier been placed on the accounts, but it could not remain effective beyond 72 hours without judicial approval.
The affidavit indicated that the EFCC’s lawyer argued that securing a court order was necessary to preserve the funds while investigations continued, emphasizing that granting the application was in the interest of justice.
The EFCC maintained that the total amount traced to the accounts, ₦661,464,601.50, was suspected to be proceeds of crime and that freezing the accounts was essential to safeguard the money pending further investigations and possible prosecution.

Controversial media personality, Saidaboj, has added his voice to the ongoing debate surrounding the tragic death of Ruth, the sister of Big Brother Naija winner Phyna.

In a recent statement, Saidaboj called on the Dangote Group to go beyond offering condolences and instead take full responsibility by sponsoring the late Ruth’s children until they secure stable employment in the future. According to him, this would be the company’s most genuine way of apologizing and showing accountability.
“The true way to say sorry is not just in words, but in action. Dangote Group should ensure Ruth’s children are trained, educated, and supported until they get good jobs. That is the real obligation,” Saidaboj emphasized.
Her comments have since sparked mixed reactions on social media. While some Nigerians agreed that corporate organizations should prioritize corporate social responsibility in cases where negligence or controversy may be implied, others argued that placing the entire burden on Dangote Group may be excessive.

“Kingship Will Become A Political Office, Rulers Will Be Replaced In Their Lifetime” – Primate Ayodele

The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has revealed that he foresees that kingship will become more of a political office rather than a traditional office in Nigeria.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele stated that traditional rulers will be replaced in their lifetime, unlike the normal procedure, which requires that a king dies before the emergence of another.
He made it known that traditional stools will be disrespected and reduced to nothing because of politics, stating that many of the rulers will be taken for granted, while the government will start looking down on them.
“They will be relegated because of politics, they will be forced to be into politics, or they will lose relevance. There will be a time when a traditional ruler will not have to die before another one emerges, the stools will be politicized because they won’t bother to consult oracles, it will become a political office.”
“Some prominent kings, including Emirs, Obis, Obas, Ezes, will be reduced to nothing because their local government will start controlling them. Some of them will be taken for granted, and the government will start looking down on them.”
The prophet explained that traditional rulers will be imprisoned and arrested in Nigeria, stating that respect for them will drastically decrease. He made it known that they will be relegated because of politics.
“There will be so much politics that will come into the stool regardless of the class, and I see them losing relevance. In Nigeria, some kings will be arrested and imprisoned; I am seeing bad days ahead for traditional rulers.”
“The honour and respect given to rulers will drastically reduce. I see a kind of reform by the government to seriously checkmate the traditional rulers.”
