BREAKING: Businessman Picks Lagos APC Governorship Form, Set To Challenge Tinubu’s Candidate
All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Lagos state, Samuel Ajose, has purchased the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms valued at ₦50 million.
The Badagry-born businessman picked the forms personally in Abuja hours after the President Tinubu; Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the apex leadership body of APC in Lagos; Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other chieftains of the Lagos APC endorsed the Deputy governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, as their preferred aspirant for the party’s ticket.
Ajose explained that his resolve remains rooted in service, anchored in a clear vision, and driven by one conviction that Lagos deserves development.
In a statement on his verified X handle formerly Twitter, Ajose said: “I have officially picked up my nomination and expression of interest forms, taking a definitive step forward in my aspiration to serve as Governor of Lagos State on the platform of our great party, the APC.
“This moment is bigger than a political process. It is a personal commitment to purposeful leadership, inclusive governance, and the kind of progress that every Lagosian can feel and point to.
“My resolve is rooted in service, anchored in a clear vision, and driven by one conviction; that Lagos deserves development which reaches every community, creates real opportunities for its people, and leaves no one behind.
“I begin this journey with humility, courage, and complete faith in God and in the good people of Lagos. Together, we are building something this state will be proud of.”
Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has finally dumped the African Democratic Congress (ADC), according to multiple high-level insiders familiar with ongoing political realignments ahead of the next election cycle.
Sources close to the development revealed that “the decision has been taken” following the Supreme Court ruling on the party’s lingering leadership crisis, which has continued to cast uncertainty over its stability and legal standing.
Insiders say former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is “fully aligned” with Obi and “moving in the same direction,” with both camps reportedly agreeing that “staying in ADC under these conditions is a risk we’re not willing to take.”
According to sources at the centre of the negotiations, the internal situation within the ADC has been described bluntly as “a setup.” One insider explained: “The plan is simple, bring everyone in, then knock them out on technical grounds.”
Concerns over potential legal battles appear to be a major factor driving the exit. “Once this gets to the Federal High Court, it’s over. Nobody will rescue you,” a senior source warned, pointing to fears that unresolved party disputes could jeopardize future candidacies.
The crisis is further compounded by tensions involving former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar. Insiders claim his stance has “shut the door completely,” noting that “his refusal to step aside has hardened everything, there’s no path forward like this.”
Multiple sources confirmed that the withdrawal process is already underway. Obi and Kwankwaso have “stepped back deliberately,” while discussions around alternative political platforms have moved beyond preliminary stages. “Alternative platform talks are not exploratory anymore, they’re advanced,” one source disclosed.
Despite the Supreme Court’s intervention, insiders insist the ruling has done little to resolve the crisis. “The Supreme Court didn’t solve anything,” a source said. “It made the situation worse, and the legal risk is still hanging.”
Another insider emphasized the inevitability of the move: “This is not a maybe. It’s happening. The only thing left is timing.”
The development signals a major shift in Nigeria’s opposition landscape, as key political figures appear to be repositioning amid growing uncertainty within existing party structures.
The lawmaker representing Yagba Federal Constituency of Kogi State, Leke Abejide, has announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Daily voice reports that Abejide made the announcement at a press conference in Abuja on Friday.
“I joined ADC, nurtured it to national recognition as a political party with representation in both national and state assemblies. The party structure was funded by me as the then national leader of the party, which I have willingly relinquished to the current national chairman, Honourable Nafiu Bala Gombe, and I wish him good luck as he continues to fight for his rights in court.
“I have decided to change the broken bricks in the ADC and become a cornerstone in a better political party with a strong structure that will benefit my people,” Abejide said.
Abejide accused David Mark and other members of the opposition coalition of “hijacking” the party.
He added that the decision to dump the ADC is a painful one, but necessary to save his political future.
“It is a painful decision but necessary to save my political future from those who came to destroy my former political party that I laboured hard to nurture and loved dearly,” he said.
The Kogi lawmaker, who is yet to disclose his next political destination, revealed that he was advised to leave the ADC by his lawyers.
He added that his next move would be made public soon.
“You will know any moment from now where I am heading to. Maybe by the time I obtain my form, it will be clear to you,” the lawmaker said.
Some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo and his counterpart in Bauchi, Bala Mohammed, alongside members of the party’s Board of Trustees and the factional National Working Committee, have held a closed-door meeting in Abuja following the Supreme Court ruling on the PDP’s leadership crisis.
The PDP leaders were said to have met at the Bauchi House in Asokoro, Abuja, shortly after the Supreme Court ruling on Thursday, April 30.
Earlier, the Supreme Court nullified the convention that produced the national working committee that was backed by Makinde and Bala, granting victory to the faction backed by Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
According to The Punch, the high-level meeting was attended by the BoT members, the national assembly caucus, the national executive committee, the national caucus, state chairmen and members of the ex officio.
Earlier, the chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, announced that the BoT would take over the affairs of the party until the constitution of a substantive caretaker committee.
