What Kwankwaso Wants President Tinubu To Do Before Leaving NNPP For APC
● Details Of Their Negotiations
There is one political heavyweight who has been constantly tipped to join the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, for more than 6 months, and it’s no other than Senator Rabiu Kwakwanso, the former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party in the 2023 General election.
Those who understand the game of politics know that he’s a big player with many benefits for any political party he chooses to align with because of his legion of followers, especially in the core North (North Central).

Top APC members across Nigeria have been wooing Kwakwanso to join the ruling party to solidify their chances in the forthcoming presidential election, considering all the rumours of a Coalition from the opposition, which has become a sudden threat to the ruling party.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has met with Kwankwaso. Not once or twice. They have been working on how to work together for 2027, and it is also a known fact that the president is a long-time friend of Kwankwaso. There have been several meetings, but Kwankwaso has made it clear that his demand must be met otherwise, there is no need to defect to the ruling party. Those conditions and demands have not been fully met yet, City People can reveal.
First, he (kwankwaso) wasn’t ready to work with Ganduje as party Chairman but that has been taken care of. He still wants to hold the structure of his state, Kano, and he has a lot at stake relinquishing his ambition to join the APC.
We were told that he also informed the president that if he must move to the APC, then it must be for something tangible that he would be getting in exchange. That’s where the question lies. Our source said, Kwankwaso said he would like to be a running candidate for president in the 2027 General election. That he must have a reasonable office to sustain his teeming followers whom he has been nurturing for many years.

Will his demands be met? Some top NNPP chieftains close to Kwankwaso indicated that their defection to the APC would happen once specific details are finalised.
There was initial the fear that created unease among Ganduje, and their supporters, who fear that Kwankwaso might join the APC and take control of the party’s structure in the state. However, President Tinubu is working to ease the tensions with some of the recent adjustments. One of such major adjustments is the resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje as APC National Chairman.
Another source also corroborated earlier assumptions about the potential deal between Kwankwaso and the President: “Kwankwaso has made it clear that he will only defect to the APC if he is offered the vice presidency. President Tinubu has considered this option and believes that Kwankwaso’s popularity and acceptability in the North, especially in the key states of Kaduna and Katsina—home to a significant portion of the electoral vote—are major factors to consider.
Just as Vice President Shettima is being rumoured to not run along with President Tinubu in 2027, fueling the Kwankwaso deal with the President.
A top chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mallam Salihu Isa Nataro, a few days ago advised, saying Shettima no longer appears to have the full backing of President Bola Tinubu.
Nataro, a former governorship aspirant in Kebbi State, said the recent confusion in Gombe State over who should run with Tinubu in 2027 shows that the Vice President may have lost his place in the President’s inner circle. He explained that if Shettima truly values the opportunity he was given in 2022, it would be proper for him to step aside.
He noted that the Vice President should notify the President and the APC leadership of his decision to leave office without bitterness.
According to him, such a move would support the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda and show loyalty to the party.
He added that if Shettima writes a public letter announcing that he will not be available to run with Tinubu in the next election, but will instead work with people in the North-East to campaign for Tinubu, it would strengthen the President’s position and calm tensions in the party.
Presently, the APC are weighing their options, but it seems President Tunubu is likely to accept his demands. Don’t forget that a few months back, some of the members of NNPP defected to the APC, and they are waiting for their leader to join them.
The lawmakers who represent Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya and Karaye/Rogo Federal Constituencies, both in Kano, anchored their defection on what they called “The internal crisis rocking the NNPP.”
Similarly, a member representing Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency, Osun State, Oluwole Oke, formally announced his defection to the APC.
In attendance at the plenary to show solidarity with the defectors was the former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.

BREAKING: Kenneth Okonkwo Dumps Atiku, Gives Shocking Reason
Nollywood actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has withdrawn his support for the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, citing the continued marginalisation of the South-East geopolitical zone.
Okonkwo’s decision followed the official announcement by the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, confirming former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, from the South-South, as Atiku’s vice-presidential running mate for the 2027 general election.
Reacting to the development, Okonkwo stated that any arrangement excluding the South-East from the top two executive positions in 2027 perpetuates unpardonable injustice against his people.
He emphasized that the region has not produced a President or Vice President since 1999 and noted that the ADC’s founder, Ralphs Nwosu, did not sacrifice leadership of the party in 2025 to enable the marginalisation of his own zone.
Okonkwo maintained that he would not campaign for any presidential ticket that fails to include a person of South-East origin as President or Vice President in 2027.
Okonkwo shared his decision in a statement released on his official X handle:
I heard from the social media that ADC has picked its vice presidential candidate from the South-South. If this is true, it is unfortunate, as this will continue the crude marginalisation of the South-East.
This Geo-Political Zone has neither produced a President or Vice President since 1999. To deny the South-East the opportunity to produce the President or Vice President in ADC in 2027 will amount to perpetuating the marginalisation.
The ADC was founded by Ralphs Nwosu from the South-East in 2005. He made the sacrifice to give up the party in 2025 for the coalition to usher in a better Nigeria. He couldn’t have made that sacrifice to marginalise his own people.
I did not join the coalition to assist in marginalisation of my own people further. I am of the opinion that if we made a sacrifice to give up the National Chairman and the President, it will amount to unpardonable injustice to deny us the Vice President in 2027.
I joined politics to fight for a better Nigeria where no region, Geo-Political Zone, or person will be marginalised.
The only favour I asked Atiku Abubakar, who openly declared that he is the pathway to the presidency of the South-East, is to show it by choosing someone from the South-East to be his Vice.
If it is confirmed that he has chosen a candidate from the South-South, I wish him well. I am not favourably disposed to campaigning for any presidential ticket that does not have a person of South-East origin as President or Vice in 2027.

BREAKING: APC Suffers Major Defeat as PDP Wins 20 LGAs in Council Election
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is coasting to victory in the chairmanship and councillorship elections in Adamawa conducted on Saturday.
The Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) will announce the official results later today.
According to Daily Trust, Emmanuel Abba, commissioner of logistics and field operations of the commission, told journalists on Sunday that collation was ongoing.
Abba said election results of 20 LGAs out of 21 have been collated, adding that Numan LGA is pending.
The commissioner said ADSIEC will officially announce the results of the 21 LGAs sooner.
He implored residents to be patient to enable completion of the entire electoral process.
According to Daily Trust, PDP has taken an early lead from results of the 20 local government areas announced at ward and LGA levels thus far.
FINTIRI ABSENT DURING LGA POLL
The Adamawa LGA election recorded low voter turnout as many polling units were without voters.
According to Punch, Ahmadu Fintiri, governor of the state, was not in Adamawa during the election.
Leader Leneke, Adamawa commissioner of information, told the publication that the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not campaign as vigorously as the PDP.
Leneke said people in the rural areas believe that LGA elections are for politicians in the ruling party.
“The PDP governorship candidate and the chairmanship candidates were going out every day for campaigns, but the ruling APC was not doing the same. So, if the PDP wins the election today, it is due to its hard work,” he said.
“There is voter apathy in today’s election because people in rural areas believe that local government elections are meant for the ruling party in government, so they see no reason to come out and vote.”
In February, Fintiri formally joined the APC from the PDP.
